In a recent WWDC 2023 presentation, Apple highlighted various enhancements set to arrive for the Wallet app and Apple Pay in iOS 17. This software update is currently undergoing beta testing and is scheduled for public release later this year, specifically for iPhones from the XS model onward. While there was anticipation for a significant overhaul of the Wallet app’s design leading up to WWDC, iOS 17 ultimately incorporates only minor modifications.
Apple Pay’s order tracking feature will see notable improvements, including integration with Apple Maps, transaction receipts, the capability to integrate an order into the Wallet app directly from an email attachment, and a novel “Track with Apple Wallet” button for both applications and websites.
When a user is monitoring an Apple Pay order involving a designated pickup time and location, the Maps app will now proactively offer suggestions through Siri Suggestions. Additionally, Apple has introduced a fresh “Track with Apple Wallet” button that merchants can integrate into their iPhone apps and websites.
Merchants now possess the ability to append a receipt to Apple Pay orders, which can be in the form of a PDF or image file, thereby furnishing customers with a payment record within the Wallet app. Furthermore, merchants can attach Apple Pay order details to emails, such as the confirmation email for an order. Subsequently, customers can conveniently tap on the email attachment within the Mail app and seamlessly incorporate the order into the Wallet app.
As previously announced by Apple, iPhone users will soon be able to present their driver’s license or ID stored within the Wallet app at participating establishments and venues. This functionality, dubbed “Tap to Present ID on iPhone,” allows users to verify their age and identity by holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near the business’s device, enabling them to access services like alcohol purchases and car rentals. Additional insights regarding this feature are available in Apple’s presentation.
iOS 17 is anticipated to launch in September alongside new iPhone models. While a developer beta version is presently accessible, a public beta is slated for release later this month.
